German-giant hits rivals for six to scoop procurement excellence award

Deutsche Post DHL scooped the prestigious Procurement Excellence award at the 2008 Procurement Leaders' awards ceremony, held in London last night.

The event, which was hosted at the home of English cricket - Lords, saw the German company hold off competition from a high class field including Nokia – who were highly commended - Royal Mail Group, Vattenfall, BP and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

Other winners in the largest pan-European event of its kind included Marks & Spencer, who picked up the Award for CSR in recognition of a programme that would, according to the judging panel, “go on delivering long-term value”. Energy-giant Eon was also highly commended for its “truly exceptional” CSR approach.

Mark Edwards from BP won the evening’s Future Leader Award, while banking-giant HSBC beat TNK BP, Wyeth, Mars UK and Fujitsu Services to come out on top in the Award for People Development category.

Elsewhere, Southern Water was recognised for the “transformation” of its buying operation in the Award for Innovation – a section that highly commended Royal Mail.

The inaugural Procurement Leaders Award for Best Cross Function Project was won by the North West Collaborative Procurement Hub.
