Rising costs sees Chinese shift, FT study finds
Chinese producers are losing out to British manufacturers as costs in the far east continue to rise, new research by the Financial Times has found.
The study claims that labour costs, the length of supply chains and the move to sustainable sourcing, has seen smaller companies shift their focus away from China.
Continued fears over quality control were also behind the change in attitude.
“The main problem is that companies do not compare like with like,” Julia Moore, chief executive of the Gauge and Toolmakers Association, told the FT.
“If they realised what the real costs were of manufacturing in China, they would certainly consider bringing the work back to the UK.”
