Governance
Procurement needs good governance. In the early 2000s a number of scandals hit the headlines, the culmination of which led to increased shareholder and governmental interest in corporate governance and the passing of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) in 2002.
SOX affects US public companies and non-US companies with a US presence. It has a direct effect on procurement departments as it mandates that organisations comply with a wide range of financial management and reporting requirements. Companies need visibility into their spend management processes, an ability to track performance, as well as full oversight of financial records.
