Economic shift sees focus fall on China

Companies are increasingly looking to Chinese suppliers as they look to preserve shrinking margins and boost growth, a summit of leading technology figures has heard.

Chiaki Ito, Senior Executive Vice President, Fujitsu, said that China’s role in technology supply chains was becoming increasingly important.

"There's going to be an increase in China outsourcing," Ito told the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in Tokyo.

"We have plans to outsource more to our subsidiary in China and to companies like Neusoft," said Ito.

Glenn Maguire, chief Asia economist at Societe Generale, said that rising input costs were also forcing firms to look towards outsourcing.

“Structurally, things are still in favour of China,” he told delegates.
