Talent management posing long-term challenge in emerging markets
Recruiting and retaining talent in China and India is one of the biggest headaches facing companies working within the countries, a leading figure has said.
Speaking at Global Sourcing Live – a virtual event run for procurement and supply chain professionals from across the world – Prof. Dr. Roger Moser, assistant professor for Global Supply Networks at the European Business School, told delegates that up to 40 per cent of managers questioned in a recent study in China identified talent recruitment and retention as their biggest challenge.
A further 38 per cent of sourcing and supply chain executives in India claimed that talent management was their largest headache.
Issues such as high staff turnover in sourcing and supply chain management, a lack of graduates, salary expectations, and the appeal of more high-profile industries such as finance, were causing a shortage of talent that was posing a threat to businesses operating in the two countries.
“The enormous growth rate of China’s and also India’s economy especially in the (sourcing) industry has not been matched by the education industry,” Moser said.
“Sourcing and logistics and purchasing needs to be promoted as a promising career.”
