Europeans falling behind in supply chain management say Sterling Commerce
European businesses are being held back by a lack of automation and supply chain integration, a report by US-based consultants Sterling Commerce has found.
The report, based on a study of 300 IT managers in the UK, France and Germany – said nine out of 10 European manufacturers were struggling to fully automate their order-to fulfilment cycle.
The UK is much less advanced than France and Germany in supply chain automation, according to the findings. More than half of IT managers in the UK were unable to gain a consolidated view of much-needed data across their supply chains compared to 14 per cent in France and 33 per cent in Germany.
The UK’s European competitors also claimed to be able to track orders more.
Of those questioned, half of UK IT managers said they were confident they could track orders in real time, compared to 64 percent of respondents in France and 63 per cent in Germany.
David Hogg, retail CPG solutions manager, EMEA at Sterling Commerce, said: “These results strongly suggest that UK businesses are facing a dual challenge: not only is poor integration having an impact on internal efficiency, but it is actually adversely impacting their ability to respond quickly to changing market demands, such as profitably launching a new sales channel or on-boarding new trading partners.”
