EU unveils new cross-border procurement plan
A new project aimed at linking member states’ national electronic procurement systems has been announced by the European Union (EU).
The EU hope the new system, which will cost an estimated 19 million euros over three years, will cut administration and transaction costs.
Viviane Reding, EU commissioner for Information Society and Media, said the project implementation was a crucial step to achieving a single European market.
"E-procurement already allows businesses to bid for the largest buyers in the EU: governments," she said.
"By making sure their systems work together, member states are helping European businesses to win public sector contracts anywhere in the EU."
