Cooperative buying wins retailer over
The retailer will take advantage of economies of scale provided by the member-owned cooperative buying group, Topco, to purchase grocery, frozen, dairy, health & beauty care, general merchandise and perishables items to drive down product costs. Other Topco members include Hy-Vee, Giant Eagle and Meijer.
"Our Corporate Brands program is one of the key initiatives in our business plan," said Dan Portnoy, Winn-Dixie's chief merchandising and marketing officer. "Topco's expertise in procurement, product development and quality assurance, plus the economies that are gained through consolidating our purchasing with other Topco members, will serve to greatly strengthen our private label initiative."
